Generation M

I'd like to change the name of generation X to generation M. M as in "maybe". I've notice a lot on facebook and I'm just as guilty, that often times the "maybes" for events out weight the "yeses" or "nos". I so often commit to things at the last minute...usually in the context of weekend plans or a purchase of some sort.

I suppose it goes with the territory in a way. I can only speak as an American and as an American, I'm constantly promoted to be a "consumer". However, in our relativistic society, absolutes are often times what you make of it....that is "my truth is my truth and your truth is your truth."

I think this bleeds on over into our daily lives and bigger decisions. When making decisions about, well anything, we think we have more options than the stars of the sky(car, house, career, spouse). On the contrary, I think part of being a man is having the forethought to say yes to sometime and doing it without regrets.

Sure truth can be relative to purchases...buy what you want, when you want, but if all areas of our lives are relative, then...I just don't know...perhaps the answer is maybe.

Making a choice involves risk. My opinion is that people (young or old) want security, and unless it is gauranteed, the answer becomes "maybe". I also think that we all are afraid of failure, and that also works into a tendency of indecisive living.

The interesting thing is that those of us who take a few risks, aren't afraid of failure and make decisions are often the type who are known for their success stories.

I agree. I think "Maybe" says something about the depth of relationships, or lack thereof.
